Are People You’re Relying on, Really the Best for the Job?

I’m currently preparing my talk on Digital Transformation at Seamless Africa Conference this March in Cape Town. Talk about a huge topic! I think I’ve rewritten my presso at least three times so far. I’ll definitely do a deep-dive into this closer the time or after the conference share my presso highlights.

I am currently reading Tim Ferris’s Tools of Titans (which is a really great read), but the other day I stumbled across this quote by Reid Hoffman and it just stuck with me because it’s SO true.

“How do you know if you have A-players on your project team? You know it if they don’t just accept the strategy you hand them. They should suggest modifications to the plan based on their closeness to the details.”

In all my encounters with companies, the biggest standout thing they can change or look at when going through the process of digital transformation, are their people. It is so often overlooked, and as a subject in itself, possibly one of THE biggest mistakes all companies make IMO – hiring the wrong people.

When it comes to employing, hire Shoulders of Giants, hire the best person your money can afford and make sure they know more than you for the role you’ve employed them for.
